We have four regular services on nearly every Sunday throughout the year. Each has its own style - we hope that you will be able to find one that suits you.
08:00am Holy Communion: Using the 1662 Book of Common Prayer said Communion Service, this service is held at the High Altar, and includes a sermon. The service usually lasts around 40 minutes.
09:15am Contemporary Communion: Taking place 'in the round' at the Lady Chapel altar, this service uses modern language from Common Worship, and includes traditional and modern hymns, with a short sermon. It's designed particularly for families, although the service is enjoyed by people of all ages. We use Godly Play during the service (find out more about this inspiring method of teaching here) Children are encouraged to actively participate. The service usually lasts around 45 minutes, and is followed by refreshments in the church.
10:30am Sung Eucharist: Taking place in the main body of the Church, this service is taken from Common Worship liturgy, at which the Abbey Choir sing, supported by occasional visiting choirs during the summer holiday. This service takes a more traditional approach to worship and liturgy. Parts of the service are sung by the choir and clergy. This, together with the colour of the vestments worn by the clergy, servers, and choir, helps us to give glory to God. The service usually lasts just over an hour.
6:30pm Evensong (5pm November - January - please check for special carol services/choral evensong): Using the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, this service lasts around 45 minutes to an hour, and takes place in the main body of the Abbey. The Abbey Choir sing on the first Sunday of the month, although every service includes hymns and a sermon. On the third Sunday of the month, a short service of Benediction is held at the end of Evensong.
Toddler Service and Play Time - Tuesdays 10:00am: Our special time for the under 5s. We meet for a short communion service which includes stories, prayers and songs - we have a big box of bangers and clangers so everyone can join in! At the end we blow the candles out - get ready to huff and puff! Then comes the all important tea & biscuits, play and chat.
Come along and join in the fun with babies, toddlers, mums, dads, grannies, grandads, carers, clergy and Mothers' Union members. Tears, teething, nappies and fidgeting are all part of the fun!
Said Eucharist - Wednesdays 09:30am: This is a said service of Holy Communion, which takes place in the Lady Chapel using Common Worship.
