Getting Married at Wymondham Abbey or Holy Trinity Church, Spooner Row
Many congratulations on your forthcoming marriage – and we are delighted that you are considering holding your wedding here.
Please contact wedding@wymondhamabbey.org.uk where one of our wedding team will be very pleased to help you begin making your wedding arrangements.
We will discuss what you would like and what we can offer – bellringing, choir, wonderful organ & organist, flowers, chapel as a venue for a champagne reception, hall as a venue for a main reception as well as the beautiful locations of the Abbey and the Church at
Spooner Row.
Once we agree a date and time, we can walk with you to complete the legal parts and help you plan your ceremony.
Have a look at here for some guidance on planning and any questions you may have. Our wedding team will be able to answer your every query or find someone who can! As you will see from the Church of England website, as well as criteria to enable marriage in a Church of England church, there are various qualifying connections to fulfil to enable you to marry here.
The simplest connection is of course that one or both of you live here – in the parish of Wymondham & Spooner Row – or have a parental home in the parish. Since parish boundaries are not always obvious you can check which parish your address is in at achurchnearyou.com
Or eligibility to marry in these churches may come from a historical attachment such as a member of the family was baptised or married here; check the C of E webpage.
If either of you has been divorced, you may be able to have either a second marriage in church or a service of blessing following civil marriage. When you book your date, this will be something to discuss with the vicar who may need to apply for permission from the Bishop. We will also invite you to participate in a marriage preparation course.
A deposit* of £350 is requested to book your date. The balance of fees due two months prior to the wedding date. * partially refundable.
Some fees are set by the Church of England and some by the PCC; they usually change annually.
Standard Fees for 2023:
• Statutory Church of England Fee £505.00
• Banns Fee £34.00 for weddings in the abbey (or £51 for “away” weddings where
banns are read and a certificate given when a wedding takes place in a church away
from Wymondham Parish but the couple live here in this parish.)
• Seasonal Fees: Heating Fee (1st October – 30th April inclusive) £40.00
Optional Extras:
• Organist £160

We look forward very much to meeting you, and helping you plan for your special day – and we pray God’s rich blessing on your future together.
