The Wind of the Spirit
Listen to the wind jostling autumnal leaves,
rustling a trail of movement across the valley,
unmistakable in its passing.
Watch the branches, gently waving in the breeze,
stillness, trembling, then a dancing dynamic.
Unseen power inducing movement,
encountered as a gentle caress on the cheek,
ruffling hair, stirring the air.
An undoubted existence,
feather-gentle or raging gusts.
So with God’s Spirit,
a gentle murmuring or a forceful gale,
unseen, yet tracking through our lives,
blowing where it will.
Listen for the wind of the Spirit.
Watch its impact passing through life after life,
enabling the seemingly impossible.
Be still and know
that the Spirit of God has blown this way,
unmistakable in its journeying
A Celtic Morning Invocation
Guardian of my spirit, shelterer of my innermost being, guard my body with your wing as I touch the earth this day. Guard my words from being hollow that I may speak in the tongue of love, guard my prayer from delusion that I may open myself to heaven’s ways. Guard my eyes that I may catch a glimpse of the mystery in the ordinary. Guard my heart from grasping, that I may point away from myself. Shine on me with your love as I do my earthly work this day.
