We welcome visitors from all over the world. With our recently completed development project, we now have fine displays explaining the fascinating history of the Abbey, the parish church and the town. We have artefacts and documents from our archives on display, some of which are over 500 years old. On these pages you will find information about how to get the best out of your visit.
|Day||Opening Time||Closing Time|
|Monday-Saturday||10.00 am||4.00 pm|
|Sunday||closed (except for services)|
All are welcome to attend services outside of these times, or to sit quietly whilst the service takes place.
We have now reverted to our summertime weekday opening hours. The Abbey will be open to visitors from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm from Monday 26 March. We won't be open on Sundays until later in the year (except, of course, for services).
The Abbey will be closed to visitors on Good Friday (30th March), but you are warmly invited to our Liturgy of Good Friday and devotions at the Cross at 2:00 pm.
We are open almost every weekday of the year from 10:00am, and on Sunday afternoons in the summer. The Abbey does close occasionally for special events such as funerals. Do check this website or with the Parish office (see Contact Us page) if you are travelling any distance to ensure that we will be open. Entry is completely free, although we do ask that you leave a donation to help towards the running costs of the church, which are considerable.
We have a well-equipped shop within the Abbey selling souvenirs, local produce, all sorts of books and religious items. It’s worth a visit on its own!
