Recruiting NOW for Wymondham Abbey Choir!
Do you like to sing or know somebody who does?
I am delighted to have finally arrived in Wymondham to take on the post of Director of Music and Organist at the Abbey. I am most grateful to Robert Ayers who has been directing the choir for the past few months and the excellent shape and atmosphere he has achieved in his short period of tenure. The Abbey is indeed blessed with a wonderful team of committed choristers, two fantastic assistant organists in Peter O’Connor and Mike Webb (honorary) and two fine historic organs.
The choir currently sings at the main Sung Eucharist at 10.30am each Sunday and at Choral Evensong at 6.30pm on the first Sunday of each month. I would be keen for the choir to be singing twice monthly Evensongs at the earliest possible opportunity. Currently the choir sings only the communion sections of Mass settings at the 10.30 Eucharist (Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei). As an alternative to the congregational settings there are so many wonderful Kyrie’s and Gloria’s I’d like to introduce, perhaps twice termly for the choir to get their teeth into as well as a wealth of uplifting anthems, new as well as ‘the tried and tested’.
If you enjoy singing or know of somebody who does then I’d like to hear from you by phone or email or just simply turn up at choir practice.
The main choir practice is on Friday evenings in the Abbey:-6.30-7.30 for Juniors (up to 15 years old)7.00-8.30 for Adults
There is no age restriction, so don’t feel that you’re too young or too old, and no audition is required.Junior members of the choir will have the exciting opportunity to work towards the Royal Schools of Church Music (RSCM) medals and awards, making learning just great fun. Juniors are paid for attending practices, services and weddings. Adults are paid for singing at weddings.
Previous experience of choral singing, the ability to read music or the willingness to learn would be an advantage but not essential.
I hope to hear from you.
