Teachers
Education Policy
The Abbey is committed to working with schools to make the building and its rich heritage accessible and relevant to the learning needs of school students of all ages. The Abbey’s Education Policy has been developed in consultation with local teachers and Advisers and sets out our objectives for present and future educational provision.
Resources
Teachers’ information sheets are available on the background history of the Abbey, relating in particular to its monastic origins and the upheavals of the sixteenth century. Other sheets are in preparation. We can also offer a number of sample activity sheets and quizzes suitable for pupils of different ages.
Risk Assessments
A sample generic risk assessment for general school visits to the Abbey is available to assist teachers with preparing assessments for individual school visits.
Organising a Visit
If you would like to discuss organising a visit to Wymondham Abbey, please discuss this with Mr Roy Pulsford, our Head Steward, on 01953 600 297, for more 'routine' visits. If you have special requirements, or wish to organise a special event, please contact Mr Richard Barton-Wood at abbeygarth@hotmail.com.
School Services, Concerts and Events
A number of local schools make regular or occasional use of the Abbey for special school services, such as end-of-term or Christmas carol services. The Abbey makes a splendid setting for such celebrations and can accommodate up to 450 people (including side aisle chairs). Please contact the Vicar, Canon Chrsitopher Davies, in the first instance. Email: vicar@wymondhamabbey.org.uk.
The Abbey may also be booked for special events such as school concerts. Our daughter church at Spooner Row, with seating for about 80 people, provides a more intimate setting for small scale recitals. Please discuss your ideas Barbara Randall, email: barbara@stedmunds2.org.uk
